It’s not who you know, it’s what you do. Our goal is to acknowledge people who are making a positive impact on their community. We give back to those who commit selfless acts not for their own benefit, but for the benefit of others.

Drum roll please…..our first ShanesWay Community Service Award belongs to Miss Margot Wells.

Margot is a 3rd grader at Columbia School where her mom, Piper Wells, teaches. Dad, Matt Wells, is a loan officer at North Valley Bank.

Margot Wells is being recognized for donating over $800 to ShanesWay in the past two years. Planning for her 7th birthday, Margot really didn’t want any new toys so she and her family decided to ask her party guests to donate to ShanesWay instead of bringing gifts. It was such a big hit that Margot decided to dedicate her birthday presents to ShanesWay again at her 8th birthday.

Some of the hobbies Miss Margot enjoys is acting, dancing, and playing fiddle. She has been in a play for Riverfront Playhouse and has taken fiddle lessons from Miss Trisha for close to 4 years.

Margot also enjoys reading Beverly Clearly books such as “Ramona and Her Father” and “Beezus.”

Thank you, Margot, for setting a gracious example of how young people can make a huge impact on those around them!

ShanesWay is a nonprofit dedicated to helping young adults, 18-30 years old, who are fighting a life threatening illness have a “Live Life” moment.

"I had a blast sitting down with Mike Mathis on Monday.  I've tried to learn the guitar a couple times before.  But it was either uninteresting chord exercises or friends trying to show me how to play a song way outside my reach.  Mike blended the two, setting an easy-going and interesting environment.  Not only do I get to learn the fundamentals, but also the music that drives me.
 
I don't think thank you even comes close to expressing how grateful I am for everything ShanesWay has done for me.  I'm over the moon."
