Awards will be given to top 3 times in 5K Poker run in these age divisions:
5-10 years
11-15 years
16-20 years
21-35 years
36-50 years
51-70 years
71 + years.

Prizes will be given for best poker hand in these race categories:
3K Poker walk
5K Poker walk
and 5K Poker run.

Directions: From I-5: Exit Hwy 44 east, exit Shasta View Dr., turn left, follow signs. From 299: Exit Shasta College, go south, turn right on College View Dr, turn right on Shasta View, follow signs.

Poker Walk Run Hand Rules and Rankings
(highest to lowest)

Royal Flush : Run of sequential cards from Ten to Ace, with all cards of the same suit

Straight Flush : Run of sequential cards, all cards in the same suit, but not Ace high.

Four Of A Kind : Four cards of the same rank e.g. four Aces, four Kings etc…

Full House : Three cards of the same rank plus a pair, e.g. three Aces and a pair of Kings.

Flush : Five cards all of the same suit.

Straight (Run) : Five sequential cards, not of the same suit.

Three Of A Kind : Three cards of the same rank e.g. three Aces, three Kings etc…

Two Pair : Two sets of pairs e.g. a pair of Aces and a pair of Kings.

Pair : Two cards of the same rank e.g. two Aces, two Kings etc..

High Card : If you have none of the above, then the highest value card in your hand plays.

Notes:

Aces count high for all hands – e.g. a pair of Aces beats a pair of Kings.

In a straight an Ace can count low (e.g. A, 2, 3, 4, 5) OR high (e.g. T, J, Q, K, A) but NOT BOTH (e.g. Q, K, A,

2, 3 is NOT a straight).

If any card drawn is a duplicate of a card previously drawn, that card must be re-drawn. No hand can have duplicate cards (e.g. you cannot have more than one King of Hearts in your hand).

Prizes are awarded on the poker hand rankings outlined above, not on speed. We want all participants to have fun and remain safe, so please take your time on the run.

ShanesWay is a new California nonprofit corporation that offers young adults, 18-30 years old, who have a life threatening illness/injury, a chance to experience a “Life Moment” that they have always thought about doing, but didn’t have the means to accomplish.

We lost our oldest son, Shane Cattanach, on November 20, 2009, due to complications from asthma, a disease he had endured all his 27 years.  Shane never let his asthma distract him from achieving his goals.  He lived life to its fullest:  earning 2 black belts by the time he was 14, skateboarding, hunting, fishing, mobbing his Chevy pickup, busing tables, bungee jumping, bartending, brewing beer, graduating with a BA in Finance, skydiving, surfing, running a ½ marathon, traveling, living in Ireland for a year, boxing, MMA training, visiting with friends and family, and living large!  Our motto is the bio that Shane wrote about himself for his myspace.com page.  It says it all.  Our goal is to help other young adults who have life threatening illnesses to have a “Get it in while you can” moment.

ShanesWay.org was approved by SaveMart/Food Maxx to be in their SHARES program.
